The SST Variability Investigation In Northern Atlantic And The Assessment Of Related Changes In European Climate

چکیده

Remote sensing data provided the major contribution to the sea surface temperature (SST) field analysis during last several decades. Climate variability of the SST in Northern Atlantic is investigated by using an empirical orthogonal function (EOF) and fuzzy classification techniques. The leading EOF of the wintertime sea-level pressure (SLP) field is more strongly coupled to the surface atmosphere temperature (SAT) fluctuations over Europe than the NAO. Non-linear trend estimation technique was developed to detect an inter-annual variability of the SST, the SLP and the SAT. The SST had a tendency to dropping in interval from late forties to early seventies of last century. This tendency was changed to increasing in the middle of seventies and continued to the end of last century. It is in a good coherence with the SAT climate series in Europe.

Reconstruction of the South Atlantic Subtropical Dipole index for the past 12,000 years from surface temperature proxy

Climate indices based on sea surface temperature (SST) can synthesize information related to physical processes that describe change and variability in continental precipitation from floods to droughts. The South Atlantic Subtropical Dipole index (SASD) is based on the distribution of SST in the South Atlantic and fits these criteria. It represents the dominant mode of variability of SST in the...

The absence of an Atlantic imprint on the multidecadal variability of wintertime European temperature.

Northern Hemisphere climate responds sensitively to multidecadal variability in North Atlantic sea surface temperature (SST). It is therefore surprising that an imprint of such variability is conspicuously absent in wintertime western European temperature, despite that Europe's climate is strongly influenced by its neighbouring ocean, where multidecadal variability in basin-average SST persists...

Diagnosing Changes of Winter NAO in Response to Different Climate Forcings in a Set of Atmosphere-Only Timeslice Experiments

Changes of the winter North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) variability in response to different climate forcings, and their possible causes, are decomposed and investigated using a set of atmosphere-only timeslice experiments forced by sea surface temperature (SST) from coupled runs. The results indicate that the effects of uniform SST warming and direct CO2 radiative forcing could enhance NAO vari...

Investigation on the Climatic Parameters Fluctuation Using Data from the The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (Case study: Shirkouh Region - Yazd Province)

Any changes in the climate system affect on the access and management of natural resources such as water and soil. Temperature and precipitation are the key elements of climate for studying their trend can be important for atmospheric scientists, environmental managers and planners in the field of hydrology, agriculture, environment and so on. In this study, the trend of climate fluctuations wa...

Influence of atmospheric circulation patterns on dust transport during Harmattan Period in West Africa

This study has used TOMS AI as well as the reanalysis dataset of thirty-four years (1979-2012) to investigate the influence of atmospheric circulation on dust transport during the Harmattan period in West Africa, using Aerosol Index (AI) data, obtained from various satellite sensors. Changes in Inter-Tropical Discontinuity (ITD), Sea Surface Temperature (SST) over the Gulf of Guinea, and North ...
